Mechanical Assembly

Partnership proposal · prepared for EngineDIY

Let customers build it
before they buy it.

Turn physical engine kits into interactive 3D experiences. Help customers explore the mechanics, preview the assembly, and unlock digital models with their purchases.

The assembled single-cylinder engine on its display stand, rendered in the 3D assembly module

Runs in your browser. No sign-up. Loads only when you start it.

Drag to orbit · scroll or pinch to zoom · click or tap a part to install it · turn the crank once it sits in its bearings

Our demo is one cylinder of a radial aero engine — the same family as the radial kits in EngineDIY's catalog. A pilot would digitize one of those kits.

Independent concept — not affiliated with EngineDIY.

How it works

From product page to digital library

Two products that work alone or together: an assembly demo that is free for customers on the product page, and a digital model unlocked by each eligible purchase.

Digital model catalog

One finished model. A catalog designed to grow.

The demo mechanism is complete and playable. The other entries show how the catalog is organized; each is labeled for exactly what it is.

Activation

One code, one model, matched to the kit

The customer sees exactly which model a code unlocks before committing it. A code is spent only at the moment the model lands in the customer's library — never one without the other.

The flow

Working demo
  1. 1Choose the model with the kitThe customer picks the kit; the code issued for the paid order is bound to its digital model.
  2. 2Sign inCodes go into an account, so the model works on any device. (Demo: email and password, no email verification yet.)
  3. 3Enter the codeChecked on our server, with limits on repeated attempts. Errors never reveal order details.
  4. 4ReviewThe customer sees exactly which model the code unlocks before anything is spent.
  5. 5ConfirmOne explicit confirmation: this code, this model.
  6. 6UnlockThe code is spent and the model added together, or neither happens.
  7. 7Open the libraryThe model appears in the customer's library and stays there unless the order is refunded.

Try the whole journey

Place a simulated EngineDIY order, receive the code, redeem it, and open the model from your library. No payment, no real store.

Every failure has a clear answer

Invalid code
The code does not exist. Typos and guesses get the same answer, so codes can't be probed.
Expired
Past its campaign's expiry date.
Already redeemed
Used once already. If it was you, the model is in your library.
Revoked
The order was refunded or canceled, so the model was withdrawn.
Model not eligible
A code unlocks only the model it was issued for; planned or illustrative models are never issued.
Sign-in required
Codes are redeemed into an account, so the model follows you across devices.
Temporary server error
Nothing was redeemed. The code stays valid; try again.

Guarantees enforced on the server

  • One code, one redemption, one model. Two people trying the same code at once can't both unlock it.
  • Codes are random, can't be guessed, and are tied to the order, so a refund cancels them. We keep a fingerprint of each code, not the code itself.
  • Codes are issued only for orders the retailer's system verifies as paid, never from a typed order number (simulated in this demo).
  • Refunds and cancellations withdraw the model through the same verified channel; every issue and redemption is recorded.

Partner value

What it could do for a kit retailer, and what it already does

We keep the two apart: potential benefits are hypotheses for a pilot to test; the list on the right is what can be checked today.

What a pilot would test

Hypotheses
Interactive differentiation
A product page where the kit can be built, not only looked at.
Understanding before purchase
Customers see how the parts fit, which may help them choose a kit at the right level.
A digital model with the physical kit
Costs nothing to ship and arrives the moment the order is verified.
Engagement after checkout
A reason to come back between kits: a growing digital collection.
Reusable content
One digitized mechanism serves the product page, the reward catalog and marketing.
Measurable experiments
Demo starts, completions and product clicks per page, and later an A/B test on actual orders.

None of these are measured results. A pilot should judge them on commercial outcomes, comparing orders and revenue for pages with and without the module, not on demo engagement alone.

What exists today

Verifiable
  • A real mechanical assembly built from public-domain (CC0) CAD: 12 parts, 5 subassemblies, kinematics checked against the CAD and for collisions over a full revolution.
  • Running natively on iPhone at a 60 fps target, with sound and haptics.
  • The same build running in the browser, embedded on this page.
  • Purchase-to-unlock demo with test codes, accounts and a digital library.
  • Partner dashboard: codes issued, redeemed and refunded (live).
  • Demo engagement events (next).
